Worth it?

2004-08-23

First day of class, and I'm half an hour from excitedly walking into Television Production for Advertising, but I just have to share this one:

Today at work, I came across a four inch thick file of a five year old girl named Kierra. When Kierra was a year old, she was in a car with her mother and father that was hit by a train. And I'm not talking bumped off the tracks, I mean straight up obliterated. Kierra's mother was killed, but miraculously enough, Kierra and her dad survived with relatively minor injuries.

Kierra's insurance policy benefits are set to commence when she turns 18, establishing a trust fund that will put her through college. Then, she will receive monthly payments of several thousand dollars for life, guaranteed. Finally, on her 40th, 50th, 60th, and 65th birthdays, she will receive a lump sum payment of one million dollars.

This girl is only five years old and she already knows two things.

One, provided she lives to a ripe old age, she will die a multi-millionaire who will hardly have had to work a day in her life.

Two, she will never know her real mother.

If you ask me, that's one hell of a trade off.
